Gary Glitter was released from a Vietnamese jail yesterday. Former British glam rocker Gary Glitter fell ill during the night, missing his flight to London from Bangkok after leaving Vietnam on his release from prison.

Thai Airlines would not let the 64-year-old on the flight to London because he said he was having a heart attack.

He has been diagnosed with costochondritis, an inflammation of the ribs that causes chest pain, a medical official told AFP.

“The doctor prescribed a painkiller and issued a certificate saying he is fit to travel,” the official said.

Glitter is apparently still in the international transit lounge and has not booked a new ticket with Thai Airways, an official for the airline said.

According to Thai immigration officials, he is refusing to leave Bangkok, demanding that he be allowed to stay in Thailand or travel to another Asian country.

Glitter left Vietnam late on Tuesday.

He was arrested there in late 2005 and convicted the following year of committing obscene acts with two girls then 11 and 12 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau.

The terms of Glitter’s 2006 sentence called for his deportation upon his release.
